We’re a company guided by our values, intent on providing the highest quality services to our clients.

PREVENT core values

PREVENT first launched as a niche service when the founder Dennis Cohan recognized a need for specialized fire/life safety services within hospital settings.  Founded in Northern California in 1987, the company performed general contracting and environmental abatement services in healthcare facilities. Working with property owners and facility managers, Dennis learned that the need for professional fire/life safety services was vastly underserved. PREVENT was organized as a separate company and began providing code compliance advice and fire barrier management services throughout California and the Pacific region.

We’ve led from the forefront of the industry, the first to develop the expertise needed to help facilities meet their compliance obligations, and the best at providing the accurate documentation needed. We continue to strive to be the best across the fire/life safety continuum and are determined to serve our clients and the industry through innovation, education, and commitment to excellence in execution

We’re focused on doing what the best company would do – in all things. To succeed in that, we foster a culture of care – both within our company, and in how our employees exercise their duties every day at yours. Our teams are unobtrusive and non-disruptive to your workflow, but fully communicative as to onsite efforts. We understand how critical it is to maintain a safe environment and continuous operations; you can rely on our pledge to respect your business.

Our field teams receive comprehensive training from industry and in-house experts, and attain relevant certifications and approvals from regulatory agencies and trade associations. All our technicians are VendorMate and Symplr (VCS) approved and, more importantly, they are employees. We don’t subcontract technical staff – our “Green Team” is an integral part of the PREVENT family.

We started out as a family-run business and still embrace the same ethos today. We collaborate and support each other, working toward a common goal.
Our staff is empowered to make decisions, and encouraged to do what the best company would do, without exception.
