Fire & Smoke Damper Inspections, Repairs & Maintenance

Fire, smoke, and combination dampers often comprise the largest component part of the fire barrier system. There are a wide variety of sizes and types, in many locations throughout a facility, and often they are difficult to see and access. Regardless of these challenges, all dampers need to be closely monitored to remain in proper working order in the case of a fire.

Installation must be according to IBC code and NFPA 80, and with continuous, compliant inspection and maintenance programs in place to prevent the spread of fire. The NFPA requires dampers to be inspected within one year of installation, and thereafter every 4 years for non-inpatient facilities, and every 6 years for inpatient hospitals.

NFPA 80 and NFPA 105 also state: “If the damper is not operable, repairs shall begin without delay.”

PREVENT has extensive experience in inspecting and testing all types of fire dampers, smoke dampers, and fire/smoke combination dampers. We don’t employ the ‘arms’ length’ exclusion that others do, and pride ourselves in locating and servicing many dampers that are often overlooked and left off the maintenance schedule.

Our certified technicians also use our proprietary HEPA-filtered Solution mobile containment units onsite to ensure we control any debris and/or dust, and leave your property spotless.

Our damper reports document floor-by-floor inspection and repair, including:

  • Life Safety Plans with Damper Locations
  • Pass/Fail Inspection Logs
  • Reasons for Failures
  • Repairs to Non-Compliant Dampers
Let us design a fire damper compliance program for you that will ensure compliance and safety in your facilities.
