PREVENT first launched as a niche service when CEO Dennis Cohan recognized a need for specialized fire/life safety services within hospital settings. Founded in Northern California in 1987, the company performed general contracting and environmental abatement services in healthcare facilities. Working with property owners and facility managers, Dennis learned that the need for professional fire/life safety services was vastly underserved. PREVENT was organized as a separate company and began providing code compliance advice and fire barrier management services throughout California and the Pacific region.
We’ve led from the forefront of the industry, the first to develop the expertise needed to help facilities meet their compliance obligations, and the best at providing the accurate documentation needed. We continue to strive to be the best across the fire/life safety continuum and are determined to serve our clients and the industry through innovation, education, and commitment to excellence in execution.

We don’t subcontract technical staff – our “Green Team” is an integral part of the PREVENT family.
