“Thank you for your service.”
We say it in passing to those we encounter in uniform, a standard greeting. We write it in messages to those who served and came home. And we whisper it tearfully over the graves of those who did not.
These five words speak silent volumes that we – those of us who have not walked a vet’s path – cannot. We cannot ever conceive of what our miliatry members experienced during active service and after, but we can honor the gift of that service.
So, today and every day, US Veterans everywhere deserve our thoughts, a nod, a handshake, a salute, a pat on the back, a shared look that conveys the depth of our gratitude. They bravely chose a selfless endeavor on our behalf, and we will always be in their debt.
